"Light of the World" is inspired by Amanda Gorman 's amazing poem "The Hill We Climb". I don't usually use text in my paintings, but her words moved me, so there they are, alongside Matthew 5:14 which calls us to be light to those around us.
The piece is mixed media (acrylic and ink on vintage sheet music and clayboard) and measures 11x14 inches. The sheet music ("Send out thy Light" by Schirmer and based on Psalms 43 and 20) belonged to my grandmother and is from one of her songbooks from 1940. When she passed, I kept a selection of her sheet music, and I love to give it continued life in my artwork. I think of it as a collaboration with her through something we both loved.
Allison Fox is a Christian artist who seeks to challenge her viewers while at the same time explore the intersection of her faith and art. She earned her BA in Art from Houston Baptist University and is active in her local art community in Houston, Texas.
